A Guide To Booking - Motag - Motorcycle Training Made Easy

A Guide To Booking

In order that we may help you choose the most suitable and cost-effective way to obtain your full licence, we ask that you are able to provide the following information:

  1. Are you under 21? If so you are only able to train and test for a Category A1 Light Motorcycle or Category A2 (restricted) standard motorcycle licence.
  2. Do you have your own motorcycle and if so of what capacity? Your bike may be suitable for all or part of your training and test.
  3. Have you completed a CBT Course and still have the DL196 Certificate? If not we must remind you that you are not allowed to ride a motorcycle on the road until you do complete the course.
  4. Have you passed the Motorcycle Theory Test? If not we can book this for you and supply a learning pack.
  5. If you are over 21 have you considered what type/size of motorcycle you are likely to drive soon after passing your test?
  6. Have you ridden a motorcycle before, and if so of what type and size, when and for how long?
  7. When booking your chosen option we will also require the following information:
    1. Your name, address and a telephone contact number.
    2. Your Driver Number from your Driving Licence.
  8. Payment for courses. A £150 (50 for CBT and Post-test courses) deposit is payable at the time of booking, either by credit or debit card over the telephone at the time, or by cheque, cash or postal orders to be received at our offices within ten days of making the reservation.

The balance of your course fees are due on or before the first day of training.

IMPORTANT NOTES:- PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

General

  1. Arrival on time is essential so that the course can start promptly.
  2. You must bring your current UK driving licence showing valid entitlement. (Category A for a Motorcycle and Category P for a moped). Please bring the paper counterpart to a photo-card licence. A full car licence acts as a provisional licence for a motorcycle, but you MUST carefully check that motorcycle entitlement is in date if you have a provisional licence. You need to be able to meet the eyesight requirements for riding on the road, (standard car Number Plate at 20.5 metres-67 feet) and have an understanding of the Highway Code.
  3. You are not allowed, by law, to ride a powered two-wheel vehicle on the road as a learner without a valid CBT Certificate.
  4. You should allow a full day for each training day, especially CBT. Compulsory Basic Training will generally be completed on the first day of a training course for those who have not already got a valid CBT Certificate. This cannot, however, be guaranteed, as in common with all our training we will not, under any circumstances, compromise safety.
  5. Candidates using their own bike MUST ensure that they have current insurance, MOT, Road Fund licence (Tax Disc) and that the vehicle is fit for the road or we will be unable to conduct their course.
  6. All customers enrolling on a DAS course will be expected to demonstrate competent machine control on a 125 before being allowed to ride the larger bike.
  7. All practical driving test candidates are required to produce a valid CBT Certificate, Theory Pass Certificate * Photographic proof of identity (both parts of a Photo Licence or a valid Passport, if you have an old style paper licence) when attending their test. If you do not have a Motorcycle Theory Pass Certificate please ring us immediately. NOTE: A Theory Pass Certificate is NOT required for candidates only doing CBT.
  8. Our machines are supplied topped up with fuel and, as with any hire vehicle, you are expected to pay for its replacement as you use it.
  9. It is suggested that you bring something to eat and drink.
  10. If you have recently taken a Theory Test and loaned learning CD, Video or book from us and you have not already posted it back to us, would you kindly return it on your first day of training.
(This note does not normally apply to a CBT only candidate)

Special Needs
It is very important that you discuss with us, any special needs you have prior to starting your course. We can then ensure that whatever necessary arrangements are needed are put in place. These needs may be medical, physical or learning needs.

Clothing
You are advised to wear warm, comfortable clothing, suitable for the weather. Gloves and stout footwear are important. An instructor may refuse to commence a course where he/she considers the Candidate is inappropriately dressed for motorcycle riding.

Safety helmets are a very personal item of clothing and need to be a correct fit. We would strongly recommend that anyone contemplating riding on two wheels purchase their own helmet from a reputable supplier. Loan helmets are available but we can not possibly stock sufficient helmets to guarantee a perfect fit on everyone's head.

Insurance
Where we have agreed to provide a motorcycle we include fully comprehensive insurance cover. You, or your parent or guardian, if you are under 18, will need to sign an insurance disclaimer acknowledging that you, as the rider, accept responsibility for the insurance excess. This excess is normally limited to 200.00, for any damage caused to the vehicle whilst in your care, or to any third party as a result of an accident and will be refunded if, as a result of an insurance claim investigation, you are held to be blameless for the incident.

Personal Accident Risk
MOTAG recommends personal accident and injury insurance for at least the duration of the training course and can accept no liability for personal injury due to your loss of machine control whilst riding.

We have found that CICA can provide Personal Accident cover at very competitive rates, their local representative can be located by contacting their head office on 0800 169 7733.

And Finally!
The MOTAG Training Team hope you will really enjoy your course, and be successful at the first attempt. Your comments whether good or otherwise, are always valued, so please spend a few minutes completing the enclosed Evaluation Form.
